The National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) in Bicol is located at Busay, Daraga, Albay just next to the Cagsawa Church Ruins, a National Cultural Treasure (NCT). It is working on launching the much-awaited exhibitions soon in the museum to feature the unique geological landscapes of Bicol that will underscore the marvels of Mayon, as well as impart the endemicity of its flora and fauna. Outdoor exhibitions, botanical garden, butterfly sanctuary and observatory for stargazing are also envisioned to complete the museum facility for leisure and learning.
The NMP completed the two-year rehabilitation and upgrading of its museum in Busay, Daraga, Albay last 2019. The 1992 National Museum Cagsawa Branch building was damaged during the 2006 Typhoon “Reming” prompting the transfer of the museum site and its geological, botanical and archaeological exhibitions to Tabaco City in 2008 up to 2018.
The NMP holds dear the story of its museum in the Bicol Region, which is a place of resilient peoples who have been for centuries withstanding the eruptions of Mayon, the most active volcano in the Philippines, and surviving the effects of typhoons that pass by it year-round.
After completing the necessary manpower, the NMP Central Office and NMP Bicol have been working to launch soon the much-awaited exhibitions in the museum. With an inclusive and universally accessible facility, NMP Bicol has already lined up public programs for guests of all ages. The NMP in Bicol will be a perfect place to inspire, promote and boost awareness of the natural, cultural, and artistic heritage of the region through its research, material evidence on display, and educational programs.
