The National Museum of the Philippines is mandated to manage and develop national collections in the areas of artistic and cultural heritage and natural history, and carries out permanent research programs in biodiversity, geological history, human origins, pre-historical and historical archaeology, maritime and underwater cultural heritage, ethnology, art history, and moveable and immoveable cultural properties. Moreover, the Museum provide and extend technical assistance in the preservation and restoration of various cultural properties, of national significance throughout the country.
Nowadays, museum functions go beyond being mere conservators of science, culture and arts. Its purpose extends to a broader and diversified impact that critically reflect, and act upon the signs of times, such as contribution to the socio-economic growth; plans towards achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals; building resilient crisis management and other contemporary social issues.
Promoting culture and values awareness is a requirement for social inclusion and equity.  As a catalyst for inclusivity and diversity, the National Museum of the Philippines aims to achieve a sustainable gender and development mechanisms through accessible and innovative museum services to intensify the promotion of women in science, culture and arts and build means to strengthen the available opportunities and resources to expand interventions programs and cultural structures as civic spaces for cultural dialogue and exchange that foster cultural diversity and cultural sensitivity among Filipinos, particularly the vulnerable sectors, such as women, youth and children, senior citizens, Person with Disabilities and indigenous people among others.
GENDER EQUALITY GOALS, OUTCOMES AND OUPUTS
The Gender and Development Focal Point System of the National Museum of the Philippines aim to recognize the areas for improvement and gender responsiveness of its GAD initiatives pursuant to MCW and its relative laws. Through the accomplishment of the Harmonized GAD Guidelines Checklist (HGDG) and the submission of respective Means of Verifications (MOVs), the NMP’s attributed PAPs can help achieve efficient and accessible gender mainstreaming within the agency in the attainment of its gender diverse and gender inclusive museum goal for all.
  1. Conduct of PAPs that is aligned to the PPGD goals of the country;
  2. Improved access to women’s rights, including the youth and those in the vulnerable sectors;
  3. Introduce museum services and interventions available for women and youth;
  4. Increased the opportunities for women and youth in science culture and arts through workshop, trainings and seminar;
  5. Provide employment towards strengthening of gender equality;
  6. Increased facilities, structures and services accessible to pregnant women, women with children, senior citizen and PWDs.;
  7. Observance to National Women’s Month, Pride Month, VAWC Campaign and;
  8. Promote museum experience as a form of elevating gender sensitivity in tapping creative emotion and expression and provide psychosocial intervention necessary to perform and respond to gender roles with a more balanced emotional, physical and mental wellbeing.
