Commemorating the centennial year of the Art Deco style since its inception in Paris, this landmark exhibition explores the evolution and application of Art Deco in the country. “Art Deco: Modernity and Design in the Philippines 1925-1950” brings together objects and artifacts curated from a total of over forty institutional and private collections around the country, capturing the narrative of Art Deco as it permeated the life, culture, and zeitgeist of an era spread across two galleries. This is the story of Art Deco in the Filipino way of life.

This gallery presents different manifestations of Art Deco in the Filipino lifestyle. Many of the objects displayed herein are being publicly displayed for the first time: ranging from furniture and graphic works to fashion and accessories.

Bilang paggunita sa ika-100 taon ng istilong Art Deco mula sa pagsisimula nito sa Paris, sinisiyasat ng makasaysayang eksibisyong ito ang ebolusyon at paglalapat ng Art Deco sa bansa. Nililipon sa dalawang bulwagan ng “Art Deco: Modernity and Design in the Philippines 1925-1950” ang mga bagay at artifact ng higit apatnapung institusyonal at pribadong koleksyon mula sa iba’t ibang panig ng bansa at ipinamamalas ang salaysay kung paano lumaganap ang Art Deco sa buhay, kultura, at kamalayan ng isang panahon. Ito ang kuwento ng Art Deco sa paraan ng pamumuhay ng mga Pilipino.

Ipinapakita ng bulwagang ito ang iba’t ibang manipestasyon ng Art Deco sa buhay Pilipino. Karamihan sa mga kagamitang makikita rito ay itinatanghal sa publiko sa unang pagkakataon: mula sa mga muwebles at grapikong obra, hanggang sa moda at alahas.
