NMP UNVEILS HISTORICAL MARKER

Last 18 May 2025, International Museum Day, the NMP unveiled a new historical marker at the renovated Sentinel of Freedom Monument in Liwasang Rizal. This event also marked the reopening of our Main Gate along Maria Orosa Street—welcoming the public back for the first time since 2021.

Along with NMP Board of Trustees Chairman Andoni Aboitiz and Director-General Jeremy Barns, gracing our simple unveiling rite were National Historical Commission of the Philippines Chairman Regalado Trota Jose, Jr. and Executive Director Carminda R. Arevalo, National Commission for Culture and the Arts Chairman Victorino Mapa Manalo, National Parks Development Committee Deputy Executive Director Jezreel Gaius Apelar, and former Senator and Philippine Red Cross Chairman Richard Gordon.

The new marker recognizes the founding date of the National Museum, tracing its roots to the 1887 royal decree that established the Museo-Biblioteca de Filipinas. Visitors are invited to celebrate our shared heritage by exploring the monument and enjoying today’s museum activities.
