GOMBURZA COMMEMORATED ON 154TH MARTYRDOM ANNIVERSARY

Last 16 February 2026, the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) joined the nation in commemorating the 154th anniversary of the martyrdom of Fathers Mariano Gomes, Jose Burgos, and Jacinto Zamora—collectively known as GOMBURZA.

A solemn flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony at the GOMBURZA National Monument marked the occasion, led by NMP Director-General Jeremy Barns, Intramuros Administrator Atty. Joan M. Padilla, National Historical Commission of the Philippines Executive Director Carminda R. Arevalo, and Faithful Navigator Rodolfo Leonen of the Knights of Columbus – Padre Burgos Assembly 0984. Wreaths were likewise offered on behalf of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso.

Similar ceremonies were also held at the GOMBURZA Execution Site in Rizal Park Luneta, and at the final resting place of the martyrs at Paco Park.
