The “Philippine Center New York Core Collection of 1974: A Homecoming Exhibition” was launched on February 14, 2021, in celebration of the National Arts Month. This exhibition located at Galleries XXVII and XXVIII of the National Museum of Fine Arts, features 115 out of the 120 artworks representing Filipino identity and showcases Filipino artistry. These were gathered by National Artist Arturo Rogerio Luz and renowned designer Wili Fernandez, as assigned by former first lady Imelda Marcos, and were brought to New York for the inauguration of the Philippine Center on November 14, 1974.
For the second series of the Artist Talk, Samar-born Raul Isidro will share his experiences in creating his six acrylic artworks: Bughaw I, II, III and IV (1973), Blue Ethnic (1974), and Cultural Minority (1974) from the PCNY Core Collection of 1974.
Raul Isidro graduated at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in 1965. Two years after, in 1967, he won Second Prize at the 17th Shell National Students Art Competition (NSAC) for his work, “Way IN” and a Certificate of Merit for “Genesis of Man”. In 1968, he won second place at the first Society of Philippine Sculptors competition and was among the Ten Outstanding Young Men (TOYM) recipients in 1979.
