UNVEILING OF NATIONAL MUSEUM MARKER AT SANTA MONICA PARISH CHURCH , ALBURQUERQUE AND SIGNING OF ESCUELLA TALLER MOA IN DAUIS, BOHOL PROVINCE



The National Museum led the unveiling of the Important Cultural Property Marker at Santa Monica Parish Church, Bohol Province on August 27, 2014 in conjunction with the town celebration of the feast of Santa Monica. The unveiling was held after the pontifical mass celebrated by Bishop of Tagbilaran, His Excellency Most Reverend Leonardo Y. Medroso.


Before the unveiling, Mr. Angel P. Bautista, Acting Assistant Director of the National Museum delivered a message on the role of the National Museum in protecting and preserving the Filipino heritage, tangible and intangible cultural properties. He also cited the significance of the church. Dedicated to Santa Monica, the church in Alburquerque possesses unique and exemplary features, such as its imposing neo-gothic fašade and portico and the massive convent or rectory, as well extensive ceiling murals that reflect the original artistic scheme.


The unveiling was graced by Bishop Medroso; Honorable Mayor of Alburquerque, Efren Tungol; Parish Priest of Santa Monica, Fr. Rogelio M. Organiza; Fr. Rev. Milan Ted Torralba; former Curator II of the National Museum, Ms. Angelita Fucanan; Mr. Charelmeine Tantingco, OIC of National Museum Branch in Tagbilaran, Bohol; and representatives from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines.


At 2:30 in the afternoon, the Satellite Training Program was launched by the Escuella Taller de Filipinas Foundation, Incorporated led by Dr. Jaime Laya at the Assumption of Our Lady Shrine-Parish Convent, Dauis, Bohol. The launching was graced by Bishop Medroso, officials of Escuella Taller, Fr. Ted Torralba and the religious sector, Ayala Foundation led by Mr. Dino Rey Abellanosa, the AECID led by Mr. Carlos Gallego, and Fr. Victor G. Bompart, who presented the first group of trainees.


The highlight of the satellite training launching was the signing of the Memorandum of Agreement for the Support of the Skills Training and the Restoration Efforts in Bohol among the Diocese of Tagbilaran, NCCA, NM, NHCP, ETFFI, AECID, Bohol Provincial Government of Bohol, Municipality of Dauis, Municipality of Alburquerque, Ayala Foundation and the MetroBank Foundation.
